1.2 million Litres Storm Water Attenuators- Bridgend Designer Outlet

Case Study: Bridgend Designer Outlet Village Storm Water Management Solution

In 1998, Camplas was chosen to deliver a storm water management solution for the Bridgend Designer Outlet Village, one of South Wales’ premier shopping destinations. As part of this project, our team provided a robust and efficient water attenuation and drainage system to manage storm water and reduce flood risk, ensuring the shopping village could operate smoothly even during periods of heavy rainfall.

Project Details

  • Scope: Design and supply of storm water attenuation and control systems.
  • Solution:
    • Six 200,000-litre storm water attenuation tanks: These large-capacity tanks were installed to temporarily store excess storm water during periods of heavy rain, allowing for a controlled release and preventing overloading of downstream drainage systems.
    • Seven variable bypass interceptors: Designed to filter and manage water quality, these interceptors prevent pollutants from entering local watercourses, supporting environmental protection.

Key Features

  • Control Valve for Regulated Flow: A control valve was installed to limit the outflow of storm water to the greenfield (pre-development) runoff rate of 25 litres per second. This controlled release rate helped maintain the local water balance and minimized the impact on surrounding areas.
  • Durability and Reliability: Since their installation, these systems have continued to operate trouble-free for over two decades, demonstrating the reliability and long lifespan of Camplas solutions.

Results

This storm water management solution has provided Bridgend Designer Outlet Village with a reliable, low-maintenance system that has operated seamlessly since 1998. The longevity and durability of these systems are a testament to Camplas’ commitment to quality and engineering excellence.

Our work with Bridgend Designer Outlet Village showcases how well-designed storm water systems can offer sustainable, long-term protection for commercial developments, ensuring business continuity and environmental safety.
