Case Study: Custom Double-Skin Sludge Settlement Tank for Mowi’s Fish Silage Management

We recently supplied a specialised 100m³ sludge settlement tank for an aquaculture project where Mowi, the world’s largest producer of farm-raised salmon, was the end user. Known for their commitment to sustainable practices, Mowi repurposes fish silage—a nutrient-rich byproduct of fish processing—for applications such as animal feed or biofuel. To meet these requirements, we supplied a tank with the following advanced features:

• Double-Skin Construction with Vacuum Leak Detection: For added safety and environmental protection, the tank was designed with a double-skin structure, incorporating a vacuum leak detection system. This ensures that any potential breach in the inner layer is detected early, providing an extra level of security and minimising environmental risk.

• Dimensions: 3.5 metres in diameter and 11.8 metres in height, delivering ample capacity for efficient storage.

• Dome-Shaped Bottom with Sump: The tank’s dome-shaped bottom, paired with a sump, facilitates efficient sludge removal and complete drainage. This feature minimises sediment buildup, making maintenance easier and ensuring optimal hygiene.

• Side Mixer: Equipped with a side mixer to keep the fish silage in suspension, the tank prevents settling, helping maintain a consistent mixture that supports Mowi’s repurposing processes.
