Originally designed for tanker deliveries of UAN (Ureic Ammonium Nitrate) liquid fertilisers but have now become ‘The Standard’ bulk storage tank for many chemicals in the range up to 100m³.
Camplas’s Helically wound GRP tanks have a 20 times higher tensile strength than Polyethylene and do not suffer from the phenomena known as
environmental stress cracking which can cause
catastrophic failure.

Camplas manufactures GRP water tanks in capacities from 30 to 300 cubic metres (30,000 to 300,000 litres). Vertical tanks are supplied up to 200 cubic metres; larger capacities are manufactured in a horizontal configuration. Potable and customised water tanks are built to order, so the capacity, dimensions and connections can be matched to the application and the space available.
Yes. Standard Storage Tanks for non-potable duties, including rainwater harvesting, process water and waste water, are available from stock. However, as standard tanks have a fixed nozzle arrangement, a customised tank is generally better suited to most water storage installations, allowing inlet, outlet and overflow connections to be positioned to match the site pipework.
Potable water tanks are manufactured to order to comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. All materials in contact with the stored water are WRAS-approved to BS 6920, and tanks for above-ground installation are given an opaque finish to prevent light transmission and algal growth. Nozzle positions, fittings and access arrangements are specified to the installation at enquiry stage.
Potable water storage is subject to the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, which do not apply to tanks for non-potable duties. A compliant potable water tank requires:
Camplas potable water tanks are manufactured from WRAS-approved materials with a 600 mm access manway as standard and an opaque finish for above-ground installation, and can be supplied with a Type AB air gap ball valve assembly, insulation, and connections positioned to suit the installation.
Potable duty should be specified at enquiry stage so that the tank is manufactured to the correct specification.
Both are manufactured from GRP, but to different specifications. A potable (drinking) water tank is designed to protect water quality: it is built from WRAS-approved materials, given an opaque finish where installed above ground, and fitted with backflow protection on the inlet.
A waste water or sewage tank is designed to contain an aggressive liquid: it has a dished base and sump for complete sludge removal, decant valves to draw off liquor, and options such as odour control vents and double-skin construction with leak detection.
Camplas manufactures both, and the specification is confirmed for each application at the quotation stage.
A 600 mm side manway with a bolted cover is fitted as standard. Options include a hinged roof manway, a ladder with safety cage, handrails, an acrylic viewing port, a ball valve assembly with Type AB air gap, a butterfly valve, and additional flanged connections positioned to suit your pipework.
For sites where freezing is a risk, Camplas manufactures insulated water tanks, which incorporate 50 mm rigid polyurethane foam between filament-wound GRP skins to reduce heat loss and protect the contents from freezing. Insulated tanks are designed as bespoke units, so please contact us with your site details.
